Imagine the fastest land animal you have ever seen. Well, if you are not thinking the cheetah, the cheetah is faster. The cheetah is the fastest land animal. It reaches speeds of 70 miles an hour. The cheetah can go from 0-40 miles per hour in 2 seconds. After a hard run to catch its prey, it can take 30 minutes to recover. The cheetah must be one hundred feet or closer to its prey because the cheetah can only go 70 miles an hour for a few hundred feet.

Did you know?

Did you know that the cheetah's spots help them blend in with their habitat? The king cheetah has a different coat from the rest of the cheetahs in his forest! His coat has a long trail of black going down his back. Cheetahs are solo hunters unlike other cats. Also unlike other cats their claws are more like dogs than cats. Do you want to know something sad? There are only 25,000 cheetahs left in the WORLD!!

Why the cheetahs are endangered.

The cheetah is endangered for many reasons. For example, when a farmer spots a cheetah, they will trap the cheetah then shoot it. Why would a farmer do this? Because they are afraid the cheetah will eat their livestock. Another reason the cheetahs are endangered is that poachers are hunting cheetahs and their prey. People are doing something else to cheetahs, by spreading themselves and their livestock into cheetah habitat.

What is being done.

Zoos have also put a new emphasis on protecting native habitats.
