Much of the Western entertainment was acts portraying life in the West that toured in the East. Will Rogers made it big with his comedian cowboy act. The most famous Western show was Buffalo Bills Wild West Show starring Buffalo Bill Cody and Annie Oakley, with others including Wild Bill Hickok and Sioux leader Sitting Bull. In 1883, it opened in Omaha and was an instant success. A noisy shot-em-up show, it let the audience see firsthand real Indians fighting real cowboys, live animals, and feats of horsemanship and shooting. The sharp-shooting duo, Annie and Buffalo Bill, would shoot glass balls in the air. Frank Butler, Annies husband, even let her shoot cigarettes from between his lips. In 1887, the show toured in England, even performing before the Queen. It then went to Europe were it received rave reviews. But Codys poor business sense and heavy drinking eventually led to the demise of the show; its last good year was 1910.
