When Orville and Wilbur Wright were children, their father bought them a fanciful toy flying machine with rotating blades. Though the "helicopter" was too fragile to survive their rough play, their enthusiasm for the possibility of flight drove Orville and Wilbur to put man in the skies once and for all.
