APOLLO PROJECT

Stage seperation on Apollo VII

The Apollo Project was started in the early 1960's and testing started in the mid-60's. Apollo was the mission that was going to take the Americans to the moon. President Kennedy had paved the way for the Apollo Project prior to his assasination. This was an era of spaceflight that grabbed the world and held it's attention in front of the television. The images that Apollo sent back to Earth were breathtaking. Millions of people worldwide witnessed the EVA's on the Moon and were mesmerized.

The only TeamQuest '96 member that remembers the moon flights is Bryan SR. (born 12/1961) Bryan SR. states:

I never missed a spaceflight or NASA broadcast. Most of the broadcasting took place in the very early hours of the morning, here on the west coast. I would force my parents to get up and watch it with me. I could not believe it was not important to them! I remember vividly all of Apollo, the landing, Armstrong's descent, the golfing on the moon, the joy of the men on the Moon and in Houston, the Lunar Rover (LR), the Lunar Module (LM) seperating and blasting off the moon. I remember going outside and seeing Apollo going by. No lie, the news would tell us when to look, and you could see Apollo zipping through the sky like a satellite or high plane.

We thought Bryan SR. was pulling our leg, so we went to his Mother and Father, Gramma Nancy and Grandpa Boyd both stated:

That kid was relentless. He would write down the times that the NASA broadcasts would be on and hang the note in the kitchen. Like he had a built in alarmclock in his head, Bryan would spring out of bed and come roust us. Apollo is on, Apollo is on. He would run through the house in a Paul Revere fashion at 4:00 in the morning. Apollo is on! OR Get up, Come outside, Apollo is going by, Apollo is going by.

Oh yeah, we remember Apollo very well !!!!!
