The oboe is a long tube-like woodwind instrument which is played with a "Double Reed". A double reed is made of two pieces of thin wood (usually cane or bamboo) placed together. When air passes between them they vibrate against each other, and produce the sound. The oboe used to have only 2 holes during the 17th century, but eventually added many more.
