The human body is made up of approximately 65% water. It is very important to get enough fluids. If you don't get enough fluids or if you lose to much fluid through sweating, your athletic performance can suffer. In bad cases medical problems can occur.

Sports drinks provide carbohydrates, potassium, B vitamins and sugars. Some nutrionists recommend sports drinks after 90 minutes or more of hard exercise.

Water is more quickly absorbed and is always a good choice, especially after shorter workouts. People who are not active require about eight glasses (64 ounces) of water each day, and people who are active in sports require even more.
