A sandwich sounds like a pretty good choice for lunch. If that sandwich came from a deli or sandwich shop you might want to think again. There was only one sandwich that was studied that was really low in fat. It is the turkey with mustard sandwich.

HamburgerRoast Beef came in second because most sandwich shops are using lean meat. Everyone gets some mayo in a chicken salad sandwich, and mayo has a lot of saturated fat. A corned beef sandwich is like a quarter pounder with and 1,200 mg of sodium sprinkled on top. Did you think a tuna salad sandwich would be a smart choice? It is loaded with 716 calories, two-thirds of day's fat, and half a day's sodium. If you have mayo with it you end up with about as much fat as 80 potato chips. A turkey club is about as fatty as a Burger King Whopper.

Another popular place to eat is Subway. A six inch sub has lower fat than its sandwich counterpart. Turkey and roast beef subs are two of the least fatty. Subway's Veggies & Cheese has much less fat than a regular "vegetarian" sandwich. If you choose a six-inch Subway BMT - named after one of New York City's subway lines - you might as well have eaten a Big Mac.
