We all know what reusing is, right? The prefix re- means to do over, so reuse is to use over again. Why reuse? Well, by reusing items, you can reduce the amount of garbage you generate and save money in the process. Reuse is the most efficient form of recycling, requiring no new natural resoures energy. It helps preserve the environment by reducing pollution of the air, water, and land.

Even recycling uses energy . Any time fuel is used in the manufacturing process, valuable energy supplies are being dwindled away. The use of energy also means that a certain amount of air pollution is occuring. Anytime fuel is burned in the manufacturing process, exhaust fumes and particles are emitted through the smokestacks of the industries into the atmosphere. These gases and particles add to our air polution woes. It makes sense, therefore, to reuse, is to reduce the amount of manufacturing.

Reusing products reduces the demand for raw materials . Natural resources such as forests, minerals, and energy supplies, will last much longer if we reuse items instead of throwing them away.

Some ways of reusing materials is by:

  • Taking used oil from your car and give it to a collection facility for processing
  • Saving kitchen scraps, like eggshells, melon rines, banana peels, etc and make a compost pile
  • Saving containers to store things like nuts and bolts
  • Fixing broken toys and tools instead of throwing them away
