Here are some alternatives to using pesticides.
- You could grow spearmint, southern-wood or tansey around the foundation to deter or discourage ants. If you already have ants in your house, pour chili powder in the area they are located at.
- Pesticides are not the only way you can get rid of roaches. You could use traps or make a mixture poisonous to them by combining baking soda with powdered sugar. 99% boric acid kills roaches quickly and putting bay leaves in cupboards, shelves, etc., will discourage roaches.
- Mothballs and flakes are also hazardous wastes because of the fumes they give off, so avoid using them. Cedar chips and lavender can get rid of moths the same way mothballs do. You can stick them in your closet, and it’ll be moth-free. Rosemary and mint are two other alternatives you can put in your wardrobe or closet.
- A solution of two part vinegar and one part molasses kills silverfish.
- To get rid of fleas on pets, add brewer's yeast to their food. Have them sleep of cedar chips and make them drink a quart of water with a teaspoon of vinegar in it. Wash them with shampoo containing d-Limonene.
- Mix bar soap with water or use old dishwater is a great pesticide for houseplants.
- Get/catch praying mantises, ladybugs, spiders, and other carnivorous insects for your garden. They will eat the pests that disturb your garden. Pull out unwanted weeds. You don’t have to use chemicals to kill them.
