An old tree stump

Count the number of rings on the tree. The number of rings there are is the number of years old the tree was when it was cut down.

You can tell more than just the age of the tree with the rings. You can tell if it was a good growing time for the tree during a year. If the space between two rings are far apart, that means it was a good growing time for the tree.. If the space was narrow, it would mean that the climate of the year was very dry.
