Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. It was named for the
Greek and Roman goddess of love and beauty. Venus is brighter than any
other planet or star. At times Venus is so bright it can be seen in the
daylight.
The surface of Venus is very hot and very dry. It has the heaviest atmosphere
of any planet. It is made up of carbon dioxide with small amounts of nitrogen
and water vapor. Due to these conditions life on Venus is not possible
due to high temperatures and lack of oxygen.
