Uranus is the 7th planet from the sun and is named for the god of sky
in Greek and Roman mythology.
We know little about the surface of Uranus because it is so far away.
Astronomers figure Uranus is surrounded by clouds. Although we cannot see
them, Uranus has at least 11 rings. They are made of an unknown black substance.
Most of these chunks are 3 feet in diameter.
Uranus was discovered by Sir William Herschel in 1781.
The 2 biggest moons are Titania and Oberon. Titania is 1,590 miles in
diameter and Oberon is 1,550 miles in diameter.
FUN FACT
The only expedition to Uranus was by the U. S. Voyager 11 which flew
by the planet in 1986.
