The Park
First created to preserve the volcanic mountains of Mauna Loa and
Kilauea, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park now has many activities. The park
is always open, so you can go hiking, picnicking, backpacking, and
touring whenever you like.
The park has lush rain forests and jagged craters, but remember there are
no pets or bikes on the trails. Explore large areas devastated lava
flows and eruptions. Write the park at the address below for more
information.
Weather
The weather at Hawaii Volcanoes is fairly temperate year round. Be
prepared for an average temperature in the 60's or 70's, maybe a little
cooler in the "winter" months. Even though this applies anytime you're
traveling to Hawaii, especially be prepared for rain from October-May.
Information
Always be cautious of that sneaky lava. Obey all closure signs and
instructions given by the rangers. Be sure to stay on all marked trails
and avoid suspicious geologic hazards such as steam vents, earthcracks,
and cliffs. Check with the Visitor Center for more information on safety
and regulations, or write them at:
