Petrified Forest

Pieces of petrified wood may be found throughout the park. You will need to hike by foot or ride horseback to find the best collection of petrified wood.



Ridgeline Nature Trail

This is a self-guided trail that gives you information about scenery and ecology of the badlands. You can also see the roles fire, wind, and water have played upon this area.


Peaceful Valley Ranch

Horses may be rented at Peaceful Valley Ranch. This was the site of a horse ranch back in the 1880's.


Buckhorn Nature Trail

Visit a prairie dog town about 1 mile from the beginning of this trail. Only the blacktailed prairie dog lives within the park, even though there are seven varieties of them. REMEMBER:Do not feed the dogs or get too close because they are wild animals.
