Historic Tour
This tour allows you to see relics of the cave from the War of 1812, and
learn about the use of the cave in earlier days. Also, see an ampitheatre
where Edwin Booth and his brother John Wilkes Booth recited shakespeare.
This tour covers almost two miles of the caves passages and lasts two hours.
Half Day Tour
The half day tours begins 2 miles from the visitor's center, at the
Carmichael Entrance. The tour stops for lunch in the Snowball Dining Room
(still inside the cave) and then continues on. This tour covers four miles
of the caves passages and takes 4 1/2 hours.
Echo River Tour
This tour is only given June-September and takes a look at the caves
waterways. On this tour you climb into a boat that one of the rangers
paddle and you are off. This tour lasts about a half day and covers 3
miles of the cave.
Travertine Tour
If you are not the adventurous type or only have time for a short tour
this is for you. This tour lasts only an hour and 15 minutes and covers
about only 1/4 mile of the cave.
Frozen Niagara Tour
This tour is like the Travertine Tour, it is short and only has 18 steps
each way, for the visitors that are in a hurry but still would like to see
the beauty of this cave.
Wild Cave Tour
This tour is for the adventurous! It covers five miles of the cave, but
they're
not an easy five miles. Like the people in the picture, you too will be
crawling around the cave! This tour last six hours and reservations are
required.
Troglobites
"Huh?", you say to yourself "Troglo what?". Troglobites are "cave lovers"
and include about 30 species of animals who live in the caves all the
time. They have adapted to the cave conditions and they could never
survive above the ground. Some of these species have been isolated from
other species for about a million years now. The tan crickets do commute
to the outside for food but live underground.
