Apgar is just inside Glacier National Park's borders. It is near to the Parks Headquarters, Lake McDonald, and right off of Going-to-the-Sun-Road. There is lodging, and two campgrounds near Lake McDonald in Apgar. Activities in Apgar include picknicking, boating, hiking, fishing, and horsebackriding.
There is also a Junior Ranger Program available. This program allows
kids ages 6-12 to join a park ranger for an 1 1/2 of discovery, learning,
and adventure. You can register at Apgar Visitors Center.
To protect the bear's the park service tells visitors and staff that
they should put there food away so it doesn't attract the Grizzly Bear's.
They have also closed all garbage dumps to take away the unatural food
source. While you are in the park do your part to
help protect the Grizzly's by not leaving food out!
Grizzly Bears
Kids, right about now I bet you asking your self why do I want to learn
about Grizzly bears? You might be interested to know that the Grizzly Bear
once romed over most of the lower 48 states, they are now mostly found in
Canada and Alaska, and are threatened in the lower 48 states. Glacier
National Park is a protected area for the Grizzly Bear. Yellowstone NP and
North Cascades NP also help protect the Grizzly's. The Grizzly Bear has
always been known as a ruthless predator, but it mostly eats grass,
berries, and roots. Unless the Grizzly Bear can distinguish the human
scent and food, it will usually move on when it hears a human coming.
