Pantry

Another room that was almost always included in the main building was the pantry. The pantry was a room used to store all the preserved food that the mission would need during the year. Here, the people of the mission stored salted meat hanging from hooks, jars of olive oil, barrels of wine, strings of dried fruits and vegetables, and large sacks of grain. Everything was kept in containers and as high off the ground as possible to protect it from rats and insects. The size of the pantry generally depended on the size of the mission.
