When I was eight years old I found a book called You Can Write
Chinese by Kurt Wiese. I fell in love with the language because the characters
were pictures and represented words. Two years later I received my first bamboo
brush, then I was able to write Chinese like a Chinese artist would.
Of course it takes a lot of practice and I have a long way
to go!
I am now eleven years old, living in Alaska with my brother
and parents. I love biking, swimming, dogs, and most
of all, Chinese calligraphy. I hope when I
grow up, I am able to study Chinese and
to travel to China.
I would like to thank ThinkQuest Junior for
having this contest, and Microsoft for
the software. I would also like to thank my
teammate Nicole, and especially
our coaches Mr. Henderson and Mrs. Anderson.

Hi, my name is Nicole. Chinese calligraphy
looks very interesting. I even got a book on
calligraphy. My dad and my mom were missionaries in
Switzerland where my older brother, Jonathan, who is 13,
was born. They also were missionaries in Senegal where I was
born. I am 11 years old. I have a younger brother, Jeremy, who is
going to be 6 on June 29th. He was born in NC.
My dad is now training other people to become missionaries. While my dad is at work
my mom is teaching my brothers and me at home. We're homeschooled. I am in 5th
grade. My older brother, Jonathan, is in 7th grade. My younger brother,
Jeremy, is in kindergarten. Sometimes my dad needs to help my mother with a problem
in school. I like dogs and cats. My family and I love to go swimming, hiking,
and playing games together.
