MOUNTAIN GOATS. Mountain Goats are found on steep mountain slopes and broken terrain featuring cliffs. They are found from Southeastern Alaska north and on many mountain ranges. Mt. Goat stand 4-5 3/4 feet long and 3-3 1/2 feet tall at the shoulders. The males (bucks) weigh 190-280 pounds. The females (doe) weigh 130-190 pounds. Kids are born in May or early June and weigh 6 1/2 pounds. Mt. Goats may live to be 12-15 years old. Their food consists of grasses, herbs, shrubs, hemlocks, mosses, and lichens. Their predators are wolves, grizzly bears, wolverines, and people. Golden eagles also prey on the kids. Marmots and goat kids are sometimes seen together and have been seen sleeping beside the other.
