LYNX. Linx are 35-40 inches long including a 4 inch tail. They stand 24-28 inches at the shoulder, and weigh 18-38 pounds. They are buff grey in color and the males are slightly larger than females.

One to four kits are born in the spring with a birth weight of 7 ounces. They usually don't live past 5 years of age, but some have been known to live to 11.

Lynx live almost exclusively on snowshoe hares; but will also kill and eat ptarmigan, grouse, waterfowl, ground squirrels and mice. Their predators are primarily people. Occasionally wolves and wolverines will attack a lynx. Their kittens are preyed upon by wolves, foxes, coyotes, wolverines, and raptors (birds of prey).

Hardwood and spruce forests are where lynx might be found. They aren't found in the western coast or in Southeast Alaska, but in most other areas. Lynx are good swimmers.
