BIRCH. Shrubs and trees grow throughout Alaska. Dwarf birch grows in muskeg and wet tundra. Kenai birch will grow to 30 feet tall with dark bark, common in south-central Alaska. These are heavily browsed by moose. Paper birch is much like paper birch but has white, papery bark.
