What are Chromosomes?

Chromosomes are a strand of DNA curled up like a phone cord and with the middle part more tightly wrapped than the rest of it so it looks like two wine bottles whose necks have been stuck together. People think that it is curled more tightly there so that your chromosomes can come together more easily. Altogether you have 46 chromosomes, 23 from your mother and 23 from your father. Number one from your mom and number one from your dad match. Chromosomes contain millions of chemical bases and thousands of genes.
