Oarfish
The oarfish is sometimes called the Òribbon fish.Ó The adults can grow up to 9.8 to 25 feet long,and weigh up to 100 pounds.It is the
largest bony fish known. It comes up to the surface if it is sick or dying.The
oarfish live in depths of 3,000 feet deep. They are the longest bony fish ever found.
The oarfish have a small mouth with no teeth. The oarfish strains small crustaceans from
their gill rakers in their mouth. The gills are shiny to attract fish. Oarfish
are rarely reported. According to Dr. Albert Gunther, only one oar fish is caught
every 10 years! An oarfish can survive with only a half of its body left!
