The chip or lift is a ball control used to get the ball over an opponent's leg or even over an opponent's body.

When to use the Chip

You use the chip kick when you want to pass over the heads of your opponents who have formed a wall. Your a halfback and you want to reach one of your forwards.

1. To do the chip, you must use the part of your foot between your shoelaces and your toe.

2. To lift or chip the ball from the ground, use the upper part of the shoe, above the toes and along the laces, to makes contact with the ball.

3. By leaning the body back and lifting the foot faster, the chip can be made to cover more distance.

Pretend the ball has a happy face on it. Now with your foot, hit the happy face in the mouth. This method will allow the chip to gain height. The hardest thing about this kick is balancing your weight on the non-kicking foot.
