A Glossary of important Stock Market Words

Active stock- a company that rises and falls rapidly

Broker- a person who will buy/sell your stocks for you

Broker's Fee- what the broker charges for his/her services

NYSE- New York Stock Exchange

Portfolio- a collection of stocks owned by an investor

Share- part of a company that you must have to make money

Ticker Symbol- a symbol or small string of letters that stands for a company's name

Technical Analysis- an anlaysis on any stocks future based on numbers like earnings, sales, and assets.

Ticker Tape- a line that covers what stocks are doing

example: Coca Cola = Ko

Ko up 3/8 means Coca Cola stock value went up 3/8 of a dollar per share

Ko down 1/2 means Coca Cola stock value went down 1/2 of a dollar per share

Volume- the amount of stocks that were traded the day before
