The Virtual Cell

Welcome to the Virtual Cell. To help you better understand the layout and structure of a cell, we have created a VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) model of a regular cell.

To view this cell model, you will need to have a VRML browser. A very popular VRML browser is Pioneer (formerly known as Fountain). Netscape 3.0 also has a built in VRML browser (Live3d).

You can see a short movie clip of the cell if you don't want to explore the Virtual Cell. It has been recorded in QuickTime format.

The virtual cell is available to download through the web in three different forms.

• gzipped - CELL.WRL.gz : 448k. (Pioneer supports gzipped VRML files)
