Hawaiian NamesOf Stars/Constellations Used In Voyaging
I wonder why the Hawaiian's named the stars asanimals, gods and chiefs? It could be that our ancestors knew thatthe stars could help to navigate anywhere without instruments andprized this knowledge of the sea, sky, and stars.

Hoku-lea (Arcturus) "Star of Gladness"
Hoku-paa (Polaris) "The Star Of Happiness"
Constellations:
Na Lalani o Pililua ( ProbablyGemini )
Huihui or Ka-nuku-o-Makalii (Pleiades)
Humu (Altair)
Na Kao (Orion)
Hoku-pa (Probably Ursa Minor because Hokupaa inthis group is Polaris )
Humu-ma (Probably Aquila, since Humu isAltair)
Newe (Southern Cross)
