What kind of constellations did Hawaiiansuse?

Hawaiians used Sirius, thebrightest star. But the first navigator didn't use Sirius. Sirius'Hawaiian name is Aa. Hawaiians also used Hokulea, The Zenith StarOver Hawaii. Arcturus is it's scientific name.

During the months of March and April, thestars shone very brightly and were easy to see. Fifteen of thetwenty brightest stars appear in the early evening.

Above the setting sun in themiddle of March is Aries, the ram and Taurus, the bull. In the higheast you'll find Cancer and Leo. The Gemini Twins are in themeridian. The Meridian is a North-South line which passes directlyoverhead. If you see seven bright stars together you're looking atthe Giant or the Seven Sisters. Other names for this constellationinclude Pleiades and Subaru which is it's Japanese name. You can findit riding on the back of Taurus, the bull.

Hawaiians sailed during March and April becausethey didn't want to sail in hurricane season. They didn't want tosail in hurricane season because the wind was too strong.
