Long ago, many of the people on earth could not read! Therefore, stories were told in pictures. Although these drawings didn't usually depict humor, you could call this an early version of cartooning. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and the people of the Middle Ages, all used pictures to tell their stories. We have collected some of our own examples of this kind of art. Look at the pictures carefully, then tell us what you think these ancient people might have been trying to say!
