| Some inshore fish are Butterfly fishes like the lau hau, Damsel fishes like mamo, Cardinal fish like aholehole, Surgeonfishes or tangs like the manini, wrasses like the hinalea, parrot fishes like the uhu, Goatfishes like the weke, squirrelfishes like the 'aweoweo, Triggerfishes like the humuhumunukunukuapua'a, Pufferfishes like the 'o'opu kawa, Tubemouth fishes like the nunu, and Eels like the puhi. Some offshore and shore game and food fishes are marlins, sailfishes, swordfishes, dolphins (mahimahi), tunas, macerels, jacks, crevallys, mullets, barracuda, herring, basses, groupers, snappers, emperors, sharks, and manta rays. There are many types of poles that can be used depending on what type of fish you are going to catch. Bamboo poles are used for small fish like owama and manini. Spinners are for all types of fish but you have to change your fishing line and some times your spinner to depending on the size of the line. Each spinner has a size maximum. Another type of pole is the ulua pole. The last type of pole is the trolling pole. It looks like the ulua pole but the pole is shorter and the reel is bigger. They pull a lure behind a boat. There are different ways of doing this, with a weight or with an outrigger. There are different types of baits like cuttlefish. The cuttle is cleaned and cut into slices big enough to fit on the hook. Shrimp is another good bait. You can easily buy shrimp at a market. Lures are also a good bait there are many types of lures.
