Who Bats Better?

Statistics are an important and interesting part of Major League Baseball. Team stats, individual stats, and league stats can give an accurate view of a team, individual, or league. These statistics can play an important part in determining team lineup, individual salaries, and team personnel (hiring or firing).
Today you will be visiting the ESPN Sports Zone Statistics page. Your job is to determine who bats better, the top American League batting leaders or the top National League batting leaders.
You will be looking at the raw data for doubles and home runs for the batting leaders in the AL and NL. You will be calculating the range, mean, median, and mode for each set of data. First a short statistics primer:
If a set of raw data is 7, 4, 8, 4, 2, 3, 5 , you should first arrange the data elements in order. ( 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 7, 8)
The range of a set of data is the diference between the largest and smallest data elements. (8 - 2 = 6) The range gives us a mental image of the spread of the data.
The mean of a set of data is simply the average. It is found by adding the data elements and dividing the sum by the number of elements. ( 2+3+4+4+5+7+8=33, 33 / 7= 4.71)
The median of a set of data is the middle number in the set of arranged data. ( 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 7, 8 ) If there is no middle number, it is the average of the two numbers in the middle.
The mode of a set of data is the number which occurs most often. (2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 7, 8) The mode of our data set is 4. It is possible to have more than one mode or no mode at all.
When you find the data requested in each question, print the data page and answer the question on the back of the printed page.

  - Find and print the data for the batting leaders in the American League who lead in doubles. On the back of the page calculate the range, mean, median, and mode of the data. Show your work.

  - Find and print the data for the batting leaders in the National League who lead in doubles. On the back of the page calculate the range, mean, median, and mode of the data. Show your work.
- Question 3:
  - Based on your calculations for questions 1 and 2, which league is better at hitting doubles? Why?
- Question 4:
  - Find and print the data for the batting leaders in the American League who lead in home runs. On the back of the page calculate the range, mean, median, and mode of the data. Show your work.
- Question 5:
  - Find and print the data for the batting leaders in the National League who lead in home runs. On the back of the page calculate the range, mean, median, and mode of the data. Show your work.
- Question 6:
  - Based on your calculations in questions 4 and 5, which league is better at hitting home runs? Why?
