A curved line that ties together a series of different notes together, whether within a measure or a group of measures. The result is a smooth continuation of the notes. See also TIE.
Staff - One of the most important parts of music-reading, this is where everything is positioned. At the beginning of each staff, there is a clef. After that, the main accidentals are listed on the lines where accidentals are needed. Next, the time signature is placed. Finally, the main music is recorded. If the music was created for players of monophonic instruments, then only one staff is needed. If the music was intended for players of polyphonic instruments, then two staffs are needed. These two staffs together are called the Grand Staff.
Stem - A vertical line that appears on the side of all notes except the whole note. If the note is positioned below the middle line on any staff, the stem is located on the right side of the note and sticks above the note. If the note is positioned on or above the middle line on the staff, the stem is located on the left side of the note and sticks below the note.
Style

Syncopation - An arrangement of notes played on offbeats.
