The vast and varied Modern category encompasses all music whose roots are in the twentieth century. In the contemporary spirit of this day and age, the Modern category has the greatest variety of all music categories, from the “folksy” sound of the country genre to the hard core, spoken lyrics of rap and hip-hop. Leaps in communication and ethnic melding has created newer forms of music to cater to a wider and more diverse world.
Though we could never really hope to cover ALL of the established and emerging musical forms, we offer explanations here to five of the most widespread forms of modern music: Rock, Jazz, Country, Reggae, and Rap.
