Meerkats are social animals living in groups of 24 members or more (generally
family members), and they may share their own burrow with ground squirrels.
They're energetic diggers whose burrows can go down up to about 10 feet. Their
diet consists of arachnids (spiders), insects, snakes and some types of plants.
Their fur is a grizzled gray with an almond colored stomach and face and their
undercoat is a reddish brown. Their long 7 to 10 inch tail is yellowish with
a black tip. Their body is 10 to 14 inches long from the crest of their head
to the base of their tail.
