Gemsbok

The gemsbok is a type of long-horned antelope known as an oryx. The gemsbok is related to the roan and sable antelopes. They live in dry regions of southwestern Africa, and other types of oryxes live in eastern Africa. Standing about 4 feet high, at the shoulder, and gemsbok weigh about 500 pounds. Both male and female gemsbok have horns that sweep about 4 feet back. They belong to the family of Bovidae.
