The Playing Field

1.1) The vertical boundary lines on the above diagram are referred to as touchlines. The area bounded by the touchlines and goal lines is referred to as the field-of-play. The areas bounded by the goal lines, touch-in-goal lines and dead-ball lines are referred to as the in-goal areas.

1.2) The touchlines are in touch, the touch-in-goal lines are touch-in-goal and the dead ball line is beyond the in-goal area. Each goal line is considered to be in the in-goal area. At the intersection of each touchline and goal line is a corner flag. For the purposes of playing a game they are considered to be touch-in-goal.

1.3) The goal posts (the dotted H's on the diagram) are considered to extend indefinitely upwards. The goal posts of each goal should be exactly 5.5m apart. Y-shaped goals are permissible provided the proper dimensions are observed and the rear stanchion lies outside the field-of-play. In either case it is recommended, though not essential, that the lower 2m of each goal post be padded in some way.

1.4) For adult games the dimensions should be as near maximum as possible. Minimum permissible dimensions should be layed down in the competition in which the game is being played.
