Electrolysis Vocabulary
1. Electrolysis: The process of breaking a substance into its component parts, using electricity.
2. Electrode: The prong that sticks into the electrolyte, through which electricity flows.
3. Electrolyte: The solution of ions in a liquid substance, in this case, water. This solution then conducts electricity.
4. Ion: An ion is a charged atom or particle.
5. Base or Basic: A substance associated with the OH- (hydroxide) ion.
6. Reactive: A property of any substance that dictates whether or not it will interact with other substances.
