What's In Store For You!

Acting is the ability of a individual to portray a character that is totally different from him\herself and make the audience believe that he is that character. Acting takes much ability in being able to memorize lines, play the character successfully, looking like the character, and fitting in the scene as fluently as possible. An actor must also have the ability to work well with others and be able to take directions and make changes as they go along. Actors perform their art in many different forms, live theater, motion pictures, television, commercial market in radio or television, and industrial shows that travel from town to town.

How Much Will You Be Getting!

Well, since that acting is so varied averaging them would be worthless. In fact the range of their earnings is from zero to millions. In any given year at least half of the people that call themselves actors didn't earn any money at all. Although salaries differ drastically from city to city. Many hours are put into producing a show and many actors work more than the normal 40-hour week in fact if you consider rehearsing and memorizing lines they probably go into the 60 and 70-hour weeks. However Movie actors may follow a eight-hour working just like all of us.

Education and Training

English is a major factor in drama and most colleges provide a person with a good selection of English courses and speach and or drama classes. However if college is not the thing for you, you may want to try a trade school. There are many trade schools around the globe that would be most helpful in the preparation on the road of an actor. Actors must and most importantly learn to express their emotions when needed to on stage and have a good sutible voice prepared for the part. Other abilities that prove to be helpful are actors who can cry at will, has a good voice, good posture and movement, an excellent memory, quick wit, and finally being able to understand the human nature is required for characterization.

The main advantage of being an actor\actress would be the fame. However since only a minority of the actors make fame it is the trying that counts.

There are many disadvantages to acting, the biggest problem is the competition for jobs are intense because of all the actors there are. Most actors have a second part-time job just to pull them through. The actors have to deal with long strenuous rehearsals, tempermental individuals, touring opportunities, and many other aspects. Though acting can be a difficult struggle many people succeed as one.

Most say that summer stock and community acting are the best ways to get started. Almost all actors caution aspiring actors\actresses to go to New York or Hollywood, since many actors are struggling there anyway. Primarily any acting job has the potential to become something big sooner or later.
