Deep Sea Diving

"THE OCEAN WEEDS OUT, FROM ALL THE RACES OF MANKIND THAT COME UPON IT TO MAKE A LIVING, A CERTAIN TYPE OF PERSON. THIS TYPE OF PERSON STAYS WITH THE OCEAN, AND THE REST ARE CAST BACK ASHORE TO DEAL WITH THE LAND PEOPLE."

Dr. Wilbert Chapman
Ocean Corporation Philosophy
Dr. Ross Saxson spoke with me in a telephone interview. Dr. Saxson works for the Association of Diving Contractors.

He, unlike several other people that I have spoken with, does not find the career adventurous. He feels that "diving is hard work." It is "not dangerous if you use your head." It is a "good life depending on how good you are."

His main stress of the conversation was the importance of divers. He feels that divers are responsible for many everyday things that we are unaware of. You are able to cross a bridge because a diver has checked it underwater. You are able to turn on a light switch because divers have laid the underwater cable.

Many don't realize the importance of divers in our everyday lives.
