The Flour Lab



Purpose:

  1. To understand how flamable finely powdered powders (like flour) are.

Materials:

  1. Bunsen Burner and Striker
  2. Flour
  3. Mortar and Pestle
  4. Dropper

Procedure:

  1. Place some flour in the mortar and powder it as finely as possible.
  2. Fill up the dropper with as much flour as possible. (Make sure dropper is COMPLETELY dry.)
  3. Light bunsen burner.
  4. Carefully shoot the powdered flour out of the dropper and through the bunsen burner.
Questions:

  1. What happens when the flour is shot through the flame?
