Politics of the Cold War

"Moral principle is a looser bond than pecuniary interest"
Abraham Lincoln October,1856

The politics of the Cold War is very difficult to confer. Because so much of the information about the Cold War is locked up in Washington and Moscow. Probably most theories about the politics of the Cold War can be categorized into two things. One is that both sides were either trying to expand or contain. The other has to do with some men's pecuniary interests and for those of you who don't use the word pecuniary very often it mean's of or pertaining to money. The policy that dominated eastern politics was the Expansion Policy. They had this policy because they believed that if communism didn't spread it would die.The policy that dominated Western politics was the Containment Policy. What the West wished was to stop the spread of communism. The U.S. believed that if western Europe was strong then it would block the spread of communism. So they came up with the Marshall plan that would give economic aid to western European countries with did strengthen western Europe.

One thing that we believe somewhat represents the U.S. politics of the time is something said by Thomas Jefferson two centuries before the cold war. That is "Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God." This is well represented in U.S. policy by how rigid and inflexible the country was during the Cold War. During the Vietnam war the U.S. decided to lose thousands of American lives instead of giving in to people we considered tyrants.

We always hear how the Free World had to stop the spread of the evil communist. That may sound all well and good but some things lead us to think otherwise. We interviewed a man who worked on a U.S. strategic missile submarine and gave us some very interesting ideas. One was that if the Cold War had never occurred then the technology that was created to destroy the world could have been put to other uses that would have benefited mankind. He also believes that the Cold War was created by the government and rich families to create work and make themselves more wealthy. Just think how much our government spends to build one super carrier. What if that money had been used to stop hunger or help educate the people of America. Isn't that better than war and genocide. This is the way he put it,"People made money".These people wanted to create fear so the sheep (people) would be easier to control. It's like a case for Fox Molder and something like Thomas Veil's"Hidden Agenda".We know the world was headed toward war, the question is why?
