  • General Description

The B-2 is used to destroy high value targets and for destroying an enemy's war making potential. Some likely targets are forces massed to invade or threaten a friendly territory production facilities for weapons of mass destruction. It is able to complete this objective by its stealth technology which allows it to destroy enemy targets deep in enemy territory without being detected by the enemy defenses. The B-2 is designed to reduce as much as possible it's radar cross section, its infrared image, engine noise, and electromagnetically. The B-2 using this even though it is about the size of a 747 as far as wingspan it would only show up on conventional radar as a bird or maybe even insects. The B-2 is able to carry and deploy both nuclear and conventional air to ground weapons. Also the B-2 does not require fighter escorts to protect it like some standard bombers need to reach their target. The B-2 Stealth Bomber also has a higher payload capacity then the only other United States stealthy bomber the F-117 Black Jet.

Twenty one B-2s have been authorized to be produced and placed into operational service. The first of these was received by Air Combat Command on December 17,1993. To date 16 B-2s have been finished. Ten of these are being used by the U.S. Air Force to train pilots while the other six are being used by Northrop and Grumman for testing. The five aircraft that have not been finished are about 90% finished.
