[ Windows ][ Macintosh ]

If you don't already have the paint and draw tools to create your art, here are some that are available for download. For the Macintosh:

  • Matt Paint - Based on the classic MacPaint, this is a small ulility that lets you create lines and polygons of different colors and patterns. The types of brushes are limited, but if you are not entirely steady with the mouse, this will be a good tool.

Download Matt Paint from the Apple FTP site (160 kbytes)

  • Mordant - This easy to use, PowerMac-only, 32-bit painting tool has a good selection of brushes, and a simple interface. It is designed to make texture maps rather than normal images, so when you draw off the edge of the page, the program wraps the line around the edge. Despite this, it is easy to create great images.

Download Mordant from the Apple FTP site (192 kbytes)

  • GifConverter - When you save a file from either of the previous two programs, the file needs to be converted to a web-compatible format before it can been seen by anyone. GifConverter lets you save these ".gif" files.

Download GifConverter. from the Apple FTP site (487 kbytes)

    For Windows 3.1 and 95:

    • Paint Shop Pro - This is a great painting program. It is simple to use and has a wide range of options and tools. Also, it will let you save directly as GIF, so your artwork is Web-ready.

Paint Shop Pro for Windows 95 - from the Winsite archive (1.93 megabytes)

Paint Shop Pro for Windows 3.1 - from the Winsite archive (1.40 megabytes)
