John Pope
Born in Louisville Kentucky, on March 16th 1822.
After promotion to Major General in 1862, Pope took command of the Army of the Mississippi. With this army he would secure the river as far south as Memphis Tennessee. After promotion to Brigadier General, Pope was given command of the Army of Virginia, and fell prey to defeat at the Second Bull Run. Pope was relieved of command in late September of 1862, and went west, were he headed several military departments.
