Hi! I'm Jen, a 17 year old distance runner from New England. I started running last year in preparation for my first cross country season. I had a pretty good first season
with a 5K PR of 25:03. I'm sure that you are wondering how I got into running, right? It's kind of funny because one morning in early August I woke up and decided that I was going to run cross country. I hadn't trained at all before August, so I was a BEGINNING runner, no doubt about it! Then, during the winter I occupied my time with my cross country ski team. My cross country running coach talked me into skiing, so that made a great base for track. At first I wasn't too into the idea of running around a track 8 times, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. I ran the 1600m and the 3200m races. My PR's are 6:30 and 14:04, respectively. I would recommend running track to any beginning cross country runner because it really improves your kick at the end of a race and is also a great way to stay in shape. This
summer I am doing A LOT of biking. I spent the last week of June biking 320 miles through Maine with a group of high school students from all over New England. That was sort of a training run to prepare for my 500 mile bike trip through Iowa during the last week of July. I participated in RAGBRAI which stands for Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. It was a blast! It was great riding and just one big party the whole way! =) I am looking forward to running cross country this fall because CROSS COUNTRY ROCKS!! =) My goal
is to run under 22:00 minutes this season and I think that I will be able to if I stay motivated and work hard.
Outside of running and biking you'll probably find me on the Internet. I have my own Web Site, Jen's World, which I started in January. It has links to music, sports and running sites along with a ton of other stuff. I started learning HTML about a year ago from my cousin who is a Computer Science major. Once I got into designing web sites I have been really into the world wide web. I am planning on making web site designing a career after college, but I have little while to think about that since I am only a Junior in high school. If you are interested in learning how to program Web Sites using HTML I would recommend going to The Crash Course in HTML because it is easy to follow and a great resource for all beginners.
