What is a soundcard? Are you in the dark ages! What cave are you living in. Well I understand and I will briefly fill you in. A soundcard is simply a device within your computer that helps the computer process sound. Originally, a computer was limited to its pc speaker (the thing that beeps at you and makes you want to kill someone), but various advances produced the sound card or soundcard (who knows the proper english? :) ). Almost every computer today comes equiped with a sound card. Soundblaster by creative labs and adlib by adlib studios really set the trend for soundcards. They are now capable of playing music, speech, and sound effects. If you have ever seen the tv show Startrek, the computer talks to the members of the crew and the crew talks to it. The computer can even respond! All of this is possible today. Soundcards vary in quality and range from $10 for an old junky one, to $300 for the top of the line. Anything above that is really unreasonable for a new user to buy and not many except the
roland line of soundcards exceed that price anyway.
Go out and get one if you do not have one. They make using your pc much more enjoyable. They can be used for music composition, games, listening enjoyment, and even as an interface card with some models for your cd-rom drive.
Almost every piece of software supports sound cards these days. Owning one is essential to using this page, so please, once again, get one and get back to us. Thanks
