Fuzzy Logic

Fuzzy logic is a relatively new superset of conventional (Boolean) logic that has been extended to handle partial truths - truth values between "completely true" and "completely false." Thus, fuzzy logic expands the 1 and 0 to unlimited possibilities. Dr. Lotfi Zadeh in the 1960's first introduced it to model the uncertainty of natural language.

The "fuzzification" Java applet helps to demonstrate how a "crisp" value can be converted into a fuzzy value. By entering your age into the top entry field, the applet will demonstrate how it can come up with an answer to the question "to what degree is this person old?"

The degree of one's age is expressed in a number that is greater than zero and less than one, where '1' corresponds to a high degree of age (or, simply old).
