Artificial Intelligence
AI, as it is popularly called, is by far the oldest and most
controversial of all the ALife sub-topics. Perhaps this is because
the scientific community began its quest to develop AI before it was
really sure what intelligence itself really meant, as AI research
began as early as the mid 50's here in America. The most simple
working definition of AI is that artificial intelligence is the
computer programmer's attempt to give his program many of the
functional properties of the human mind. Most often used in computer
games, AI is the engine that fuels all of the world's one player games
with the exception of solitaire and Taipei-type games. There are
several methods, each of varying difficulty, by which one can attempt
to accomplish this. They are:
