Yokozuna Akebono, hailing from
Oahu, Hawaii is the first foreign-born Yokozuna in the 2,00 year
history of Sumo. In Sumo, he has had a stellar career. Lately, however,
he has been struggling with various aliments and has had trouble
getting back into the "Akebono of the early nineties".
He seems to be bouncing back, however, since he has won the 1999
Nagoya Basho, the first time he has won a Makkuchi divison championship
since 1997.
