Introduction to fuzzy control systems
Fuzzy control systems are a development of fuzzy logic that
allows for extremely precise control of robotic systems. While,
this seems contradictory, that fuzzy systems would be more precise
than crisp systems, in actuality it is not. A fuzzy control system
accounts for ambiguities in the data by giving it a level of
confidence rather than declaring the data simply true or false. For
example a simple example of a fuzzy control system, would be an air
conditioning unit. A crisp air conditioning unit would turn on when
the temperature dropped below a certain degree. However, a fuzzy
system is capable of deciding whether the room is "normal" "warm
"very warm" or "hot." Thus, the system can also cool down a
"little" "a good amount" or "a lot." The picture below is a simple
illustration of how a fuzzy control system processes data and
performs actions.
